Founded in 2010 by Clara Lago, Pitusa (meaning funny little girl in Spanish) was the designer’s childhood nickname. According to an interview with Ocean Drive Magazine, Clara says, “Coming from London, but living in Miami, I generally struggled with what to wear on a day to day, just because it’s so hot here - I felt there was a void in the market for comfortable summer wear. It was something that was really hard to get your hands on”.
Clara’s journey is truly one of perseverance and dedication. She set out to design high quality yet affordable and comfortable clothing for all women. The business started out of her apartment with only “a thousand dollars and a lot of hope”. Today, over a decade later, Pitusa has grown into a robust brand selling to over 300 stores all over the world with two warehouses in both Miami and Peru and even opened it’s first Flagship store in Wynwood, Miami in 2018.
Pitusa is fiercely passionate about empowering women, both in the workplace and beyond. The brand’s employees are made up predominantly of women in every department in all levels of the company and all garments are manufactured under ethical and fair trade working conditions.
