Every year around this time we get to meet the next generation of Sandpipers customers! Some are brand new to us and some have been shopping with us for years. With summer in full swing we’ve been seeing so many of our youth customers looking for swimsuits for Camp and for vacations with the fam! Sometimes it’s a whirlwind of excitement over their new swim duds and sometimes it’s full of angst and arguments between tweens, teens, and their parents/guardians when trying to agree on the most appropriate pieces for their summer adventures. In this post we’ll break down the brands that the younger set seem to flock to most, which pieces are best for “Camp” situations, and those that should be treated delicately and saved for more leisurely summer vacays.
Of course style, comfort level, and taste varies from individual to individual which is always good to keep in mind. So whether you like a modest cut or something that shows a bit more skin, something for being active or just for looking fab, we’ve got you!
For Summer Camp
Choose pieces that are going to be up to the task at hand. We don’t suggest delicate fabrics for camp. Especially if they are going to be worn for sitting on grass, mud, or roughly textured wooden docks. Camp is a time for youth to be young and have fun with wild abandon, not to worry about ruining their expensive and delicate new swimsuit.
We love Body Glove not just for their broad range of styles but also for their price point! This is one of the brands that we often suggest for the most active swimsuit wearers. They also have a great range of inclusive cup sized bikini tops as well as UPF fabric rash guards.

Two words: Frankies Bikinis. We can’t even count how many times a teen customer has been in one of our boutiques and squealed with excitement, “OMG! You have Frankies!!!” This Malibu based brand has made quite the splash in recent years and is super popular on social media. These always-on-trend pieces are highly coveted by influencers and celebrities such as Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Jennifer Lopez to name just a few.
We love Frankies Bikinis for their innovative silhouettes and unique fabrications. Their price point and delicate materials (especially the popular ‘ribbed’ fabrics) make them one that we seldom recommend for summer camp situations as we feel they are best suited for less aggressive conditions.
